Former Port Washington resident Rita A. Nanasy, 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, Jan. 3, at Mount Carmel Care Center in Lenox, MA.
She was born in Long Island City on Dec. 4, 1930, the daughter of Stephen Nanasy. Her mother passed away when Rita was a child.
Rita graduated from high school in Long Island City and as a young woman moved to Port Washington, where she was instrumental in opening of the first Head Start pre-school program in that area. She was employed in various positions during her more than 20 years at Port Washington-based Publishers Clearing House.
Rita was passionate about music, loved to dance and enjoyed being near the water.
She is survived by her son, Blaise Gregory, of Lenox, MA.
Services and burial were private. In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make memorial donations in Rita’s honor can do so to Parents Resource Center of Port Washington in care of the funeral home.
