The Great Neck Library will host a reading of Like Cats and Dogs with Diana Heinlein and David Houston on Thursday, Jan. 23, at 2 p.m. in the community room of the main library at 159 Bayview Avenue.
Like Cats and Dogs is a humorous, one-hour performance reading in the style of radio drama, with music and effects. This reading is taken from conversations and confessions by and about our furry roommates, servants and masters, featuring classics from Thurber, Eliot and Nash.
The performance includes pieces from How to Raise a Jewish Dog and I Could Pee On This and Other Poems by Cats.
Houston is a published writer of fiction and non-fiction. He has also appeared in leading roles in scores of plays and musicals including Friar Lawrence in Romeo and Juliet and Ben in Death of a Salesman. In addition to directing productions of his own plays, he directed such plays as The Belle of Amherst and Social Security for theaters and schools.
Heinlein has acted in a myriad of leading and featured roles in Neil Simon classics including Mrs. Banks in Barefoot in the Park, Kate in Brighten Beach Memoirs and Florence in The Odd Couple. She also starred in Houston’s The Ghost of Dorothy Parker. Another memorable portrayal is the role of Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker.
