Great Neck resident Dr. Christopher J. Adams has been named Interim Associate Vice President for Student Affairs at Suffolk County Community College. Dr. Adams’ new appointment is effective immediately and he will continue in his position as Executive Assistant to the President.
“I am delighted that Dr. Adams has agreed to serve as interim associate vice president for student affairs,” said President Shaun L. McKay. “He is an experienced administrator and does an outstanding job as executive assistant to the president. As a member of my senior leadership team for the past two and a half years, he is deeply familiar with all of the major initiatives underway across our institution and is capable of quickly seeing how each one impacts upon our students, both inside and outside the classroom. His experience in planning, management, and budgetary oversight will assure the delivery of student services in accordance with our institutional goals, College policies and professional standards. As a result of his credentials and unparalleled work ethic, Dr. Adams is supremely qualified to lead this Division within the College.”
Dr. Adams began his extensive career in student services and leadership development at Hofstra University in Hempstead, where he served as Assistant Director and Associate Director of the Office of Student Activities.
Earlier, Dr. Adams led the Office of Events Management at Hofstra University before being named the Executive Administrator of the Reading and Writing Project at Teacher’s College, Columbia University. Dr. Adams has taught courses in student services in the Higher-Education Administration program at Baruch College.
“I look forward to working with the students, faculty and staff to strengthen and advance the Division of Student Affairs, both to ensure a full student experience for those enrolled at Suffolk County Community College, and to see our programs recognized nationally as being among the very best,” said Dr. Adams.
Dr. Adams earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Liberal Studies from Southern Connecticut State University and his Master of Science in Counselor Education and his Doctor of Education in Educational Administration from Hofstra University.
