Jericho To Host Food Drive

cannedThe community of Jericho will host the Feed A Heart Food Drive on Feb. 22 to support Island Harvest’s mission of fighting hunger on Long Island.

“In the course of our everyday lives, we sometimes need to be reminded that there are people in need right in our own backyard,” said Town Councilman Anthony D. Macagnone. “This food drive addresses this need and also builds awareness to this important cause.”

According to Island Harvest, 110,000 children on Long Island are at risk of hunger. From 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Waldbaum’s Supermarket at 336 N. Broadway, residents can drop off donations.

Among the suggested food items to donate are low-sodium canned vegetables, soups and fruit, canned meat, whole pasta and cereal, nutritional beverages such as Boost and Ensure and personal care items.

“Any person making a donation will be eligible for a raffle courtesy of Waldbaum’s, with the winner receiving a $200 gift card,” said Macagnone. “Much of the community is coming together to help make this event a success. I can’t thank them enough.”

For additional information on the food drive, residents are encouraged to visit www.islandharvest.org or call the organization at 516-294-8528.

The drive is coordinated by home builder and renovation contractor First Impressions Entries and Design.
