The Israeli Under-19 Women’s Lacrosse Team, which features Syosset’s own Emily Rosen and Brad Neumann, will play in Bayville on March 16 in an exhibition game against Long Island Elevate, a top-ranked Long Island-based club team, at 9 a.m.
Rosen currently plays varsity lacrosse at Syosset High School and Neumann, a Syosset HS alum, plays at Georgetown University.
“The greater Long Island community has such an incredible passion for the game, and that passion can be seen in each of our players from the Long Island region,” said Scott Neiss, Executive Director of Israel Lacrosse. “We are very much looking forward to all of our teams participating in the day’s festivities.”
The Israeli Under-19 Women’s Team has traveled the world along with the Under-19 Men’s Team to help introduce lacrosse to other countries, lead instructional clinics for children and to compete at the international level.
Both Teams recently traveled to Warsaw, Poland this past December to compete in an international tournament. The Women’s U-19 team was victorious against both the Polish National Team and the Latvian National Team. Several Team Israel players are also playing for Israeli-based club teams to help teach the sport to Israel’s youth, as the sport is new to the country.
Along with the U-19 Women’s team game, the Israeli Men’s National Lacrosse Team will be playing against Team Ireland in an exhibition game at 2 p.m. Both the Israel and Ireland National Lacrosse Men’s teams will be competing in the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championships in Denver, Colorado this summer. This is the first year that Israel will have a team participating. The day-long event will also feature the Israeli Women’s National Team competing against a Hofstra club team at 10:30 a.m.; the Israeli Girl’s Under-15 team at 8 a.m. and the Israeli Men’s Under-19 team competing against the Long Island Jesters, a top-ranked Long Island club team, at 4:30 p.m.
Attendance for the day’s events will be free of charge, and will be held at Centre Island Beach Park in Bayville.
Fans are encouraged to take part in the festivities, including a free youth lacrosse clinic for boys and girls in grades 1 -6 at 12:30 p.m., which will be led by the two national teams. Novices through advanced young players are welcome. In support of both team’s efforts to promote Lacrosse in their home countries, attendees are asked to donate any lightly used equipment they may have for use back in Israel and Ireland with youth lacrosse players who would otherwise not be able to participate in the sport.
