Hadassah Walk For Stem Cell Research

stemLast spring, the Nassau Region of Hadassah Walk-a-thon for Stem Cell Research raised the staggering sum of $152,000. On Sunday May 4, we will once more be holding our Annual Walk-a-thon where compassionate, like-minded women, men and children will be walking to help raise awareness and much needed funds for Stem Cell Research.

As science has shown, stem cells hold the promise of curing many diseases that may affect us, our loved ones and friends.

At Hadassah Medical Organization, Hadassah’s physicians and researchers are modern day pioneers in this field and are making tremendous strides in their efforts to unravel the mysteries of life threatening diseases. Research is being conducted in the hope of finding cures for Alzheimer’s, ALS, autoimmune conditions, diabetes, joint/bone diseases, Multiple Scleroses, Parkinson’s Disease, spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries and more.

Most recently, Israeli President Shimon Peres joined British Prime Minister David Cameron at Hadassah Hospital and toured the lab at the Stem Cell Unit which is researching the use of regenerative cell therapy to combat Parkinson’s disease.

Embryonic stem cells are being developed into nerve cells, the degeneration of which causes Parkinson’s disease. This is a collaborative project which involves researchers from the UK and Israel. The possibilities are endless!

Please join us the efforts by walking with us and by raising much needed funds through donations and sponsors to advance stem cell research at Hadassah Hospital. You can play a role in “turning research into cures.”

This year’s Walk-a-thon will again take place on the North and South Shore: North Shore, Temple Israel of Great Neck, 108 Old Mill Road; South Shore, Long Beach Boardwalk at Riverside Boulevard.

Registration will begin at 9:45 a.m., rain or shine!!

The minimum donation to participate is $20 per person or $36 per family.

Please visit our link: nassau.hadassah.org/stemcellwalkathon where you can register, make your donation and/or create your own personal sponsor page.

In addition to inviting families to participate, we are encouraging students of all ages, to get involved. Students can help by organizing, publicizing, and raising funds for the Walk-a-thon and of course, by walking for Stem Cell Research. The student who raises the most money will be awarded a prize.

The Hadassah Hospital continues to be at the forefront of Stem Cell Research. For more than a decade Hadassah members have been advocates for Stem Cell Research. Please join us in educating our communities about the importance of Stem Cell Research as we strive to raise funds to continue creating medical miracles. Let’s walk together for research!
