Since its release in 2005, this film has helped to galvanize governments, leaders, organizations and individuals worldwide to take action on global warming. More than a billion people are now aware of the issue and have been motivated to act. With an emphasis on hope, An Inconvenient Truth ultimately shows us that global warming is no longer a political issue but rather, the biggest moral challenge facing our civilization today. Discussion led by Jeanne Brunson of the Climate Reality Project. Films on sustainable living are showing on Thursday evenings from through April 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Garden City Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island on 38 Old Country Rd. Each film is followed by a discussion led by a local solutions expert. Tickets are $15 per night ($12 /ticket for ages 55+ and students with ID). This includes the movie, dinner and discussion. AARP Driver Safety Program
Registration began in person on Saturday, March 22 at the reference desk of the Garden City Public Library for the AARP 55 Alive Defensive Driving Course. The course will be from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Registration is limited to Garden City library cardholders aged 50 and older and must be done in person with photo identification, proof of age (preferably a driver’s license), along with the AARP membership card. A check in payment of $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members for course materials must be made at the time of registration. Cash will not be accepted. You must pay by a check made payable to AARP.

‘Needleworks’ Exhibit Opens
Come admire the fine workmanship of uniquely created “Needleworks” designed by fiber artist Michele Miroff showcased at the Garden City Public Library through April 30. Enjoy viewing exquisite hand-made quilted bookmarks and post cards, colorful woolies, artistic pin cushions, imaginative whimsies, penny rugs and quilts. Free Breast Cancer Support Groups
The Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer program is offering new support groups. There is no cost for any group; however pre-registration is required. Additional groups are formed upon request, including groups for men with breast cancer and family members. All groups meet at Adelphi University School of Social Work in Garden City. • Support group for women with metastatic breast cancer will meet weekly for eight weeks from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
• A telephone support group for women with breast cancer will be held weekly for eight weeks from 10:30 a.m. to noon.
Furniture Needed
The A.T.Stewart Exchange Consignment Shop at 109 Eleventh St. in Garden City is looking for furniture to add to its inventory. The shop can use cocktail tables, end tables, consoles, chairs of all types, dressers, dining room tables, breakfronts, servers, secretaries, mirrors, etc….it’s all in demand. If you have a particularly large piece, take a picture and show it to Maryann Caterino at the shop (516-746-8900). Consignees are paid 50 percent of the selling price. The shop is conveniently located on the lower level of The Garden City Historical Society Museum. All proceeds from the A.T.Stewart Consignment Shop go towards the maintenance and upkeep of the Garden City Historical Society Museum.
