Four Farmingdale High School students recently competed in the Northrop Grumman’s Build A Bridge Competition. The students had to create a model bridge in the physics-based competition by using one pound of balsa wood and glue.
Farmingdale High School student Scott Hilbrandt created a model bridge that weighed eight ounces, and held more than 50 times its weight. The team of Richard Kevan, Peter Callahan and Mitchell Grossman also created a bridge that weighed one pound and held 60 pounds of weight. The students competed against their peers throughout the region as well as professional engineers. The competition also provided an opportunity for students to look into possible engineering career paths.
