College Donates Sports Gear

This past week, Farmingdale State College’s Sport Management Club and Sigma Beta Delta finished off their sports equipment drive and fundraiser for Children’s Sport Connection. The weeklong event finished on April 19, when members from the community and other organizations on Long Island stopped by to donate equipment and monetary donations.

Victoria “Tori” Green, president of SBD, and Paul “PJ” Waszkiewicz, president of the Sport Management Club, teamed up when they learned of the need for gently used or new sporting equipment for underprivileged children as they believe that through sports, many of these children can learn valuable life lessons.

The sports equipment donations will be distributed, later this month, to three organizations on Long Island helping many children have the proper equipment to play sports: Valley Stream PAL, PS 69 in the Bronx, and the Long Beach Recreation Center.

“I am extremely proud of all of the people who have helped support Children’s Sport Connection in this effort as we all have been able to bring hope to many children so they can now play sports with the proper equipment,” said Waszkiewicz. “So far we have raised over $200 and collect hundreds of pieces of sports equipment during the week.”

All of the funds raised by the sports equipment drive will help pay for new equipment or fees for children to play in sports leagues.

Organizations who helped during this week long event include: Farmingdale State College, the Sport Management Club, Sigma Beta Delta, the college Athletics Department, Cascarino’s of Farmingdale, the United Mavericks, Farmingdale PAL, Farmingdale High School Athletics Department, Waszkiewicz Family, the Grassi Family, Farmingdale Baseball League, Astoria Federal Business Banking Department and Bagel Hut.
