‘Always Ready’ To Lend A Hand

Living up to its motto, “Always Ready,” the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary joined the Town of Oyster Bay, North Oyster Bay Baymen’s Association and Friends of the Bay along with other volunteer groups on Saturday, April 26, for the harbor cleanup.

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary was responsible for cleaning up both on the water and the beaches of beautiful Oyster Bay Harbor and Center Island and assisted in collecting tons of debris that could cause navigational and environmental hazards to local residents and the recreational boating community.

The US Coast Guard Auxiliary’s primary responsibility is boating safety. The US Coast Guard Auxiliary is a government entity now celebrating its 75th anniversary (1939-2014) and is comprised of more than 37,000 volunteers and is the civilian component of the United States Coast Guard and part of the Department of Homeland Security. The auxiliary assists the US Coast Guard in its missions of marine safety; navigation; and vessel examinations in addition to waterway patrols, SARs (Search and Rescue), radio watches and other missions when called upon.
