A 16-year-old boy was shot to death in Hempstead late Friday night about two miles across town from the scene of a recent double murder that remains unsolved, Nassau County police said.

Hempstead village police officers responded to a 911 call made from outside of a home on Bennett Avenue near the corner of Amherst Street, where they found Robert Brown of Westbury suffering from a gunshot wound shortly before midnight, police said.

The victim was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead two hours later.

Homicide Squad detectives are continuing the investigation.
