It seemed that all of Port Washington turned out to recognize the valor of its fallen heroes and those who came home from wars that were waged in the name of freedom.
Memorial Day was part celebration, for those who returned home, and part somber occasion as a time to remember the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Port’s parade began on Campus Drive and Port Washington Boulevard, then proceeded down Main Street to the Sousa Band Shell for a culminating ceremony.
And what a parade it was. Veterans from WWII stood aside those who had come home from Afghanistan. All beamed as they rode in cars or marched is clusters.
Along the way, from young to old, residents lined the streets to cheer and wave to the veterans who put their lives on the line so this country could remain the good old USA.
