Lady Dalers’ Last Stand

After securing a big win over the Syosett Braves, the Lady Dalers of Farmingdale High School went into the Long Island Class A Championship with the hopes of clinging on to the title. The Lady Dalers would take a quick lead by scoring back-to-back goals, the first off the stick of Emily Marlow at 21:59 and then less than a minute later a goal by Zoe Zebersky, to put them up 2-0. At 17:11, West Islip would return fire, scoring their first goal of the night. The Lady Dalers would go up 3-1 after another goal by Bridget Weill. The Dalers would get two more off of Chrissy Kelly and Jillian Alonso in the first half to give the Lady Dalers a 5-3 lead. But the Lions would score right back to tie it 5-5 going into halftime.

The West Islip Lions would take control in the second half, scoring a quick two goals before Bridget Weill scored again to get the Lady Dalers close, trailing 7-6. The Lady Dalers would get two yellow card penalties, giving the Lions the momentum to score two more goals. Lady Dalers Goalie Olivia Kirk would make 10 saves in the game, but the effort was not enough to keep West Islip for long. By the end of the second half, the Lions would secure a total of 7 goals, to defeat the Lady Dalers by a final score of 12-8.

West Islip ends their season after going 20-0, capturing the team’s first Suffolk County and Long Island Championship titles, while the Lady Dalers finish their season as the Nassau County Class A Champions, and will look to next year to try and bring the Long Island championship title back to Farmingdale.
