The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District congratulates students enrolled in Mattlin Middle School’s sixth-grade band and John F. Kennedy High School’s string and chamber orchestras for participating and earning distinction in the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Major Organization Festival at Hofstra University.
JFK High School’s chamber orchestra earned level six gold with distinction, JFK’s string orchestra was awarded level give gold honors, and Mattlin Middle School’s sixth-grade band was honored with level two gold.
The festival hosts students throughout New York State to perform three separate pieces in front of expert judges. The judges assess the student music groups on their tone, intonation, technique, accuracy, interpretation and additional musical elements.
