Seniors Give Students Tech Insight

This year’s Vernon Leaders Club is made up of 64 sixth-grade students and is advised by Vernon teacher Jen Doxsee. The purpose of Leaders Club is to help organize and run school events. The club helps to fundraise for various organizations as well as volunteer their time for community service.

The Leaders Club brainstormed on different ways to interact with the community and they thought that visiting the Life Enrichment Center would be a great way to help bridge the gap between generations.

On Thursday, May 29, the Vernon Leaders Club had lunch at the Life Enrichment Center.

After lunch the seniors shared their stories and experiences about how technology has changed throughout their lifetime and everyday living.  The students gained first-hand knowledge of history that cannot be learned from a textbook as seniors were able to share how they felt and give a glimpse of what life was like decades ago.

Leaders also shared some of their own stories about how technology has influenced their lives. This was a learning experience for the Life Enrichment Seniors as well as our Vernon students. Students are looking forward to sharing their newfound information with their peers at their June “Vernon Town Meeting.”

Doxsee commented, “It was so much fun. When we left the kids were so excited relaying all of their stories. I had five or six seniors come up to me thanking us and wanting us back.”
