A South Salem Elementary school team of six ladies and six gentlemen won the silver trophy in the Dancing Classrooms Colors of the Rainbow Team Match and Festival.

As documented in the hit movie, Mad Hot Ballroom—which looks inside the lives of school kids on a journey into the world of ballroom dancing—Colors of the Rainbow is a team-based ballroom dance competition.

Schools across Long Island that completed Dancing Classrooms: Transforming Lives One Step at a Time during the 2013-14 school year, were invited to send a team of 12 students to the match. The event was held at Sachem North High School in Lake Ronkonkoma.

Coming together from across Long Island, the students displayed the core values of Dancing Classrooms’ 10-week, 20-lesson in-school residency program with elegance, partnership, and civility as they performed the Merengue, Foxtrot, Rumba, Tango, and Swing. Farmingville’s Lynwood Elementary won the gold.
