Each year, Congresswoman Carolyn McCarthy has the opportunity to nominate outstanding local students to attend the U.S. Military Service Academies.
This year, two residents from New Hyde Park, Takhyun Cho and Newton Tsang, have accepted their offers of appointment. Cho will graduate from Stuyvesant High School and Tsang will graduate from South Kent School and they will both leave this summer for the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
“I was pleased to nominate Takhyun and Newton, and I congratulate them and their families for all of their hard work throughout this process,” McCarthy said. “I will closely follow Takhyun and Newton’s careers and I wish them all the best as they serve our country.”
McCarthy recently hosted an event to congratulate these students, and their families, as they prepare to embark on this journey. Each appointee received a journal in which McCarthy encouraged them to write about their experiences during their first year in the academy.
