The Roslyn Middle School’s Youth Against Cancer (YAC) Club raised more than $10,000, the most of any team that participated in this year’s Relay for Life, which was at the middle school on May 31.
With their advisor Tami Cutler, the students have worked hard all year and held many fundraising events: bake sales, a give back night at a local restaurant, a two-week change challenge in which homerooms battled it out to see who could raise the most money, and finally, the Relay for Life event itself, where they sold snow cones, cotton candy, popcorn and glow sticks.
The high school’s YAC Club also made a very strong effort and raised the second-highest total this year, with more than $6,400 collected. Dozens of teams comprising hundreds of individuals in our community raised nearly $40,000 for the relay, which is organized by the American Cancer Society in association with students, school staff and local residents.
