Dressed in patriotic colors, first-grade students at Abbey Lane Elementary School in the Levittown School District concluded their study of the American flag and the Pledge of Allegiance with a Flag Day celebration attended by parents, faculty and local dignitaries. Flag Day is typically celebrated on June 14 and commemorates the 1777 adoption of the American flag by resolution of the Second Continental Congress.
Waving miniature flags, the students and their teachers led the audience in the singing of patriotic songs and educated their guests with presentations about famous Americans, American symbols and the heads of state imprinted on coins. The ceremony also recognized audience members who have served the country.
