Long Island Lutheran Middle & High School in Brookville recognized the achievements of its outstanding students at its Annual Honors Banquet held on June 9 at the Fox Hollow Caterers in Woodbury. Among those honored was Syosset resident Elizabeth Anez and Woodbury resident Francesca Filandro.
A scholarship awarded each year to a LuHi junior, the Karl Weiss Christian Service Award recognizes Elizabeth for her humanity, high standard of values, and Christian service to her school and fellow students.
Francesca received a National Honor Society Award. Membership in the LuHi Chapter of the National Honor Society is granted to those students who have been highly rated by faculty members in the areas of character, leadership and service and who have an 85 or better cumulative average. She also received the DECA award for her leadership and participation in that club.
The highest award presented at Lutheran High School, the Pro Deo et Schola Award is presented to the senior boy and girl who have demonstrated leadership and influenced student activities. Francesca exemplifies Christian life in school and was honored for her service to others.
Throughout her high school career she participated in the Spanish Club, Student Government, H.A.R.T. (Helping and Reaching Teens), Mathletes, French Club, Environmental Club and Legenda (LuHi’s yearbook), traveled on mission trips to Nicaragua and played on the Varsity Lacrosse Team. Francesca will be attending Elon University in the fall. Congratulations!
