Women runners from the Massapequas were out in force for on July 12 for the 31st annual Runner’s Edge Long Island Women’s 5 Kilometer Run, and several of them went home with awards.
Top local finisher was Victoria Kornieva of Massapequa Park, who finished in 19 minutes, 12 seconds, good for ninth place overall and second in the highly competitive 25-29 age group.
Other local award winners included 11-year-old Ashley Minns of Massapequa Park, who earned second place honors in the 11-14 age group; Kirsten Spillane of Massapequa, fifth place award winner in th 35-39 age group; Monica Enright of Massapequa, who scored third in the 50-54 age group; Margarita Hernandez of Massapequa, who took home the third place award in the 75-79 age group; and Ruth Maller of Massapequa Park, who scored first in the 85 and over age group.
The run was preceded by a ¼ mile fun run for youngsters ages 12 and under on the Farmingdale High School track.
“We were thrilled to have such a large contingent of runners from the Massapequas at this year’s Women’s Run,” said race director Debbie Blair. “We congratulate those who earned awards.”
