Schools Seek Upgrade Committee

Plainview school officials are looking for public input for the next round of capital improvements.

The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District announced the search for volunteers to serve on its Facilities Upgrade and Improvement Advisory Committee at a special Board of Education meeting held on July 16. The committee will advise and assist the District in preparing a capital improvement bond issue that will be proposed to the Plainview-Old Bethpage community for a vote in December.

“The next series of infrastructure improvements will be important in maintaining the well-being and safety of our students and community as well as maintaining the integrity of the District’s facilities,” said Dr. Lorna Lewis, Plainview-Old Bethpage Superintendent of Schools. “As always, we appreciate the community’s continued support.”

The advisory committee will work with an independent contractor to review the District’s state-mandated facilities report, determine the scale of work that needs to be conducted and present its findings and proposed action plan for the Board of Education to review. Committee members are expected to attend a series meetings and facility tours over a two month period, including selected weeknights and an occasional Saturday.

“We encourage community members who are interested in serving on the committee to apply on our website,” added Ryan Ruf, Assistant Superintendent for Business. “We welcome applicants from various backgrounds, including those with experience in finance, planning, construction and architecture. Their input will be valuable to us, and most importantly, to the community.”

The Plainview-Old Bethpage Central School District requests that all applications are completed and filed on the District’s website, www.pobschools.org, by July 25.
