Hicksville Improv Goes To The Farm

Hicksville improv sketch comedy group, Unrehearsed, will be performing this weekend at Crossroads Farm in Malverne.

The group, which consists of performers from Hicksville, will put on a fast-paced, interactive improv sketch show which will be made up completely on the spot. The only thing the actors know is which improv game they will be playing.

An Unrehearsed show follows a format similar to popular improv sketch comedy television shows, such as “Whose Line Is It Anyway,” using games to create hilarious situations that are completely made up on the spot.

“An Unrehearsed improv show provides a special type of entertainment,” said David Coonan, the show’s director and Malverne Community Theater president. “The performers and the audience are all in it together. The actors have no idea what is going to happen, and neither does the audience.”

The cast includes Potoula Anagnostakos, John Ortiz, Michael Pagano, Matthew Waldman, James Weippert and Joe DiGirolamo. All of the performers are Hicksville High School graduates.

“I’ve worked with this group several times. We all love acting and we all love improv,” says Waldman. “We don’t even know what’s going to happen and that’s what makes it fun.”

The show takes place outdoors so audience members are recommended to bring a lawn chair or something else to sit on. Approximate run time is 1 hour.

The show takes place Aug. 2 at 7 p.m. at 480 Hempstead Ave., Malverne. They will also be performing at Crossroads Farm Aug. 23. Tickets are $10, $15 for both shows. Visit malvernetheatre.org for more.
