Runners and walkers from Syosset, Jericho, and all over Long Island and beyond are invited to join in the fun on one of the most unusual 5 Kilometer courses on Long Island at the Saturday, August 9 Lynn, Gartner, Dunne & Covello Sands Point Sprint.
The 2013 edition of the Sands Point Sprint attracted 313 finishers, including top local finishers Pamela Lee of Syosset, who was the first place woman in the 60-64 age group, Arthur Koppelman of Syosset, who was third in the 70-74 age group, and Bert Jablon of Syosset, who earned first place honors in the 85 and over age group. Race organizers are looking for Lee, Koppelman, Jablon, and a host of other local runners to be back on August 9, 2014.
The Run presents the Long Island running community with an opportunity to traverse a unique combination of paved paths and runner-friendly woodland trails at the Sands Point Preserve.
The leading Nassau County law firm of Lynn, Gartner, Dunne & Covello has signed on to be the new lead sponsor of the event, with partner John Dunne and his wife planning on running the 5K distance. The Lynbrook Runner’s Stop will be back as the presenting sponsor.
Race management chores will be handled by the Greater Long Island Running Club. Computerized timing and scoring will be handled by Nikita Dorcinvil of justfinish.net.
The 216 acre Sands Point Preserve is an unparalleled mixture of natural and landscaped areas. Forests, meadows, beach and cliffs, gardens and a freshwater pond provide habitats for a variety of plants and animals. The proximity of different habitats provided us with a unique opportunity to create a 5 Kilometer course that will enable all the runners and walkers to experience the various aspects of the entire Preserve. This is an unforgettable course and will be an unforgettable experience.
Awards will be presented in age groups running from 10 and under through 85 plus, as well as Clydesdale/Athenas.
Look for all the usual GLIRC amenities – a great post race repast featuring the almost sinful cupcakes and other glorious baked goods that are generously donated by All Round Foods, top quality commemorative T shirts to all entrants, and a nice variety of post race door prizes.
