West Babylon Drive-by Shooting Wounds Man

Two people were arrested for their roles in a drive-by shooting that injured a 20-year-old man in West Babylon on Monday morning, Suffolk County police said.

Thomas Barbal was standing in front of his home near the corner of Terrace Avenue and Laramie Road, when a man driving a Toyota Celica fired shots from the car window as he drove by shortly before 8 a.m., police said.

The victim suffered gunshot wounds to the right arm and left leg. He was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, where he is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries. His brother, Michael, who was standing next to him at the time, was not injured.

Geoffrey Tobin, 19, and 20-year-old Miranda Mugavero, both of North Babylon, were apprehended shortly later.

They were each charged with criminal possession of a weapon. Tobin was also charged with assault, criminal use of a firearm and reckless endangerment.

First Squad detectives are continuing the investigation and asking anyone with information on this incident to call them at 631-854-8152.
