Zak Bader, 20, recently stopped off for some prayer and to bid farewell to Rabbi Shmuel Lipszyc at the Town of Oyster Bay Chabad in Woodbury — the place where he attended the TOB Chabad Hebrew school from the age of 7 — before heading off to Israel as a volunteer in the Israel Defense Force.
“My hopes after personally assisting in the efforts to restore peace and order, are to return to the United States to join the FBI, CIA or the Counter Terrorism program, having gained much firsthand experience in combatting terrorism and having mastered three languages fluently — English, Hebrew and Arabic — as part of my training,” said Zach. “I feel confident that the instruction and guidance I received in the ‘Lone Soldier Program’ will stand me in good stead.”
Israel’s Lone Soldiers are those whose families live abroad and who chose to leave their countries of origin to serve the State of Israel. Many choose to serve in combat positions, enduring grueling training, exercises, missions and operations, all to ensure it remains safe.
Town of Oyster Bay Chabad is doing their part in showing solidarity with their Israeli brothers and sisters by going ahead with a planned group trip to Israel “because we cannot allow terrorism to destroy the morality and economy of a people whose only wish is to live in peace under one G-d who loves all mankind,” says Brocha Lipszyc, program coordinator at TOB Chabad. “Our desire is to comfort those who are currently living in chaos and trauma by reminding them in person of the prophetic verse that proclaims, ‘G-d watches over Israel 24/7.’”
