Though more than a month away, excitement is already building for Pride in Port, this year to be held Saturday, Sept. 20.
Pride in Port is an annual community celebration of all the thing that make Port such a vibrant place to live and work.
The day involves residents, businesses, schools, organizations, police and fire departments and local governments.
It features a parade down Main Street, the homecoming football game and a “family fun day” for children.
As part the events that will mark the day, the Pride in Port planning committee is sponsoring a photography contest for people who live or work in Port Washington. The committee is making the announcement early to give shutterbugs plenty of time to capture “The Spirit of Port.”
Winning entries will be exhibited on Sept. 20, during Pride in Port Day activities: the Hall of Fame Breakfast, the Senior Luncheon and the Pride in Port Community Dinner Dance.

“Entries in prior contests have always shown much creativity and imagination,” a Pride in Port spokeswoman said. “Winning photos have clearly demonstrated what makes Port such a wonderful and diverse community in which to live.”
Once again there will be four divisions for entries: Elementary (kindergarten—fifth grade); Middle School (sixth—eighth grade); High School (ninth—twelfth grade); and Adult.
Prizes will be awarded for first place in each division and ribbons will be given out for those achieving honorable mentions.
Each entrant may submit only one photograph. Photographs must be no larger than 16 by 20 inches. An application form must accompany each entry.
Application forms and contest rules are available in the reference room of the Port Washington Public Library, 1 Library Dr., during regular library hours, or at the office of the Port Washington Chamber Of Commerce, 329 Main St., Monday through Friday, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Call 883-6566 before coming to ensure the office is open.
Photographs for submission will be accepted at the Chamber of Commerce office during these same hours, or at other times by prior arrangement. All entries must be received by 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 16.
