A hit-and-run driver who seriously injured a 25-year-old pedestrian in the victim’s hometown of Central Islip on Sunday night is being sought by Suffolk County police, authorities said.

Edgar Abrego was crossing Carleton Avenue at the corner of Brightside Avenue when he was struck by a northbound vehicle that fled the scene at 9:25 p.m., police said.

The victim was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he was admitted in serious condition for treatment for head injuries.

Vehicular Crime Unit detectives are continuing the investigation and ask anyone who may have witnessed or has information on this crash to call them at 631-852-6555 or anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-220-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
