On Tuesday, Sept. 9, the Town of North Hempstead will consider two amendments affecting driving life in Roslyn.
The most significant is an amendment that would lower the speed limit for traffic along Roslyn Road. Currently, that thoroughfare has three speed limits: 40, 35 and 30 mph. The amendment would lower the speed limit to below 40 mph at all times.
Roslyn Road has been the site of two fatal automobile accidents this year and both the town and Nassau County have made improvements to the road, including road signs and electronic speed signs.
Also on Sept. 9, the town will consider legislation that would require public utility companies to remove any “decommissioned utility poles, commonly known as“double-poles from town roadways. Several such poles exist on Roslyn Road.
At the August meeting, several amendments to the proposed law were suggested, including extending the time limit for removal from 15 days to 30 days and allowing extra time for the utility companies to remove double-poles if an “Act of God” occurs.
On Sept. 9, an amendment requiring the utility company to place a warning sign on any newly installed pole that has been treated with Pentachlorophenol (Penta), a known carcinogen, will also be considered as a separate resolution.
The Sept. 9 meeting takes place at 7:30 p.m. at the town hall on 200 Plandome Rd., Manhasset.
