September has been designated as the first Global Pulmonary Fibrosis Awareness Month. In recognition of this campaign, Winthrop-University Hospital is offering a free seminar for the community, “Living with Pulmonary Fibrosis,” on Thursday, Sept. 18, from 12:15 to 1:45 p.m.. The program will be presented at the Winthrop Welcome Center, located at 1300 Franklin Ave., Suite ML-5, in Garden City.
Girish Nair, MD, Director of Pulmonary Rehabilitation and Director of the Interstitial Lung Disease Program at Winthrop, will provide an overview of pulmonary fibrosis and discuss new breakthrough treatments. Gary Rosenblum, DO, Attending Rheumatologist, will provide an overview of rheumatologic disorders associated with interstitial lung disease, and Mara Bernstein, RT, will provide an overview of how pulmonary rehabilitation can help improve exercise capacity and the quality of life. Attendees will also hear from a Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation ambassador, who will discuss her experiences as a caregiver. A question and answer period will follow the lectures.
