A woman was robbed and nearly raped in a parking lot near a housing complex, office buildings and Nassau Community College early Wednesday morning, Nassau County police said.

The victim was walking in a parking lot in the vicinity of Stewart Avenue and Selfridge Avenue in East Garden City when she was attacked from behind by a man who stole her jewelry and tried to sexually assault her at 5:30 a.m., police said.

The suspect then fled in an unknown direction. The victim was taken to a local hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and released.

Special Victims Squad detectives said the suspect is described as a black man between 5-feet, 7-inches and 6-feet tall with a medium build wearing black pants and black shoes.
