Floral Park Recreation Notes

After a 25 years absence, fall volleyball once again returned to the Floral Park Recreation Center. As the summer volleyball program attracts over 50 teams and nearly 800 residents for nightly play, the majority of teams expressed an interest in continuing this program during the autumnal season. With a new format in place, nearly half of the summer teams, including a couple of new squads registered for play in early September. Twenty six teams now see action with each division having their very own dedicated night. With one week of regular season play left, teams will begin their semi-final and championship rounds the week of Oct. 20. At this time, only two teams remain with unblemished records.

The park remains a vibrant Floral Park location weekdays and weekends. The tennis courts have dozens of players honing their skills and enjoying competitive matches seven days a week. More than 30 residents enjoy tennis lessons throughout the week. At night, teams practice for their various football, soccer and baseball leagues. During weekend hours, the fields are packed with youngsters in their playing uniforms for games against other local communities. Also, starting up this coming week is the FPAS roller hockey program.

The playground, as always, is a major hub of the Floral Park community.
