From Nov. 3 to Nov. 19 the Gold Coast Arts Center, in conjunction with the Town of North Hempstead, will present the fourth annual Gold Coast International Film Festival (GCIFF). Everyone is invited to this special week of films, parties, panels, and glamour.
GCIFF is proud to offer an exciting slate of films and events in Great Neck, at the Bow Tie Squire Cinemas and at the Gold Coast Arts Center.
On Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 4, the Gold Coast Arts Center will host GCIFF Family Film Day, and invites children who are off from school and their families. This afternoon of activities from noon to 3 p.m. features a screening of family-friendly short films and interactive film-themed art activities. Free lunch will be provided by Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza. This event, open to all ages, is free for children, and $10 for accompanying adults (one adult must be present for every four children).
GCIFF presents Andrew And Wendy on Thursday, Nov. 6 at 1pm at the Gold Coast Arts Center. This short documentary tells the remarkable and moving story of a professional classical guitarist, whose life was saved by music and who gives back in an unforgettable way. Andrew Schulman, the subject of the film, will be present for a Q&A and a musical performance, and a free lunch is included.
Thursday night, at 7:30 p.m., GCIFF will screen The Wonders. This wildly original film tells the story of a bartender/artist/slacker who gets mixed up in Jerusalem’s criminal underground. A box office hit in Israel, The Wonders combines mystery, comedy, psychological thriller, political intrigue, and romance to create a unique and compelling movie. Dean Movshovitz, director of Film and Media at the Israeli Consulate in New York, will attend for a conversation following the screening.

Dove Flyer will screen Sunday, Nov. 9 at 12:30 p.m. at Squire Cinemas. This coming-of-age story is set amid the expulsion of Jews in Iraq in the 1950’s, where a 16-year-old caught in the middle of conflicting attitudes must make a difficult decision that will change his family’s destiny. A Q&A will follow with Maurice Shohet, president of the World Organization of Jews from Iraq.
Sunday at 4 p.m., GCIFF presents When The Garden of Eden. Actor and tried-and-true New Yorker Michael Rapaport delivers an unabashed love letter to the Knicks with this fast-moving tribute to the team’s glory days of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Harvey Araton, New York Times sportswriter (and author of the book on which the film is based), along with other special guests will attend for a Q&A.
In conjunction with this screening, during the week GCIFF will present an exhibit of NBA memorabilia on loan from the National Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Mass. Objects on display will include vintage jerseys, players’ sneakers, and the NBA Championship Trophy. This is the first time these items will be exhibited at an outside venue. This exhibit is free and open to the public.
Tickets for festival screenings are $14 for adults, $12 for students and seniors, and $8 for children ages 13 and under. Tickets for Andrew and Wendy are $8 each.
