Congratulations are in order for Shari Klarfeld, Steve Weiss, Craig Lerman and Howard Kestenbaum of Plainview, and Jessica Petrina of Old Bethpage, each of whom won an award in the Oyster Bay Town Supervisor’s 5 Kilometer Run, held on the roads in and around Oyster Bay hamlet on Oct. 18.
Klarfeld and Petrina were the first and third finishers respectively in the women’s 30-34 age group. Weiss earned third place honors in the 35-39 age group, while Lerman won the fourth place award in the 40-44 age group, and 83 year old Kestenbaum scored second in the 80-84 age group.
An impressive field of 693 finishers exactly tied the record turnout set in 2013.
A special congratulations to Oyster Bay Town Councilman Chris Coschignano, who put together a team of family, friends and colleagues, raising over $1,000 for ALS research through the run. Unfortunately, Coschignano himself was ill and unable to compete, but his wife, son and lots of other teammates carried the torch for him.
Special thanks go to the great team of Oyster Bay 5K sponsors, led by the law firm of Sahn, Ward, Coschignano & Baker, Pro Sports of Oyster Bay and Huntington, Long Island Challenge sponsor Runner’s Edge, All Round Foods and its ever generous CEO Glen Wolther, and Allan Sobel and the gang at South Shore Outdoor, as well as to the Town of Oyster Bay and its great Parks Departments, Supervisor John Venditto, Nassau County Legislators Rose Marie Walker and Laura Schaefer, who served as the official starter of the Run, Oyster Bay Town Council member Anthony Macagnone, Oyster Bay Receiver of Taxes Jim Stefanich, and District Court Judges Fran Ricigliano, Helen Voutsinas, William O’Brien and Anna Anzalone.
Congratulations to Plainview runners!
