Nassau County Executive Edward P. Mangano was named Honorary Coach for the 5th Annual Alzheimer’s All-Star Basketball Classic.

Mangano was honored to be part of such an extraordinary fundraiser where 100 percent of all proceeds go to Alzheimer’s Foundation of America (AFA).

He was also given the honor to perform the ceremonial tip-off at the girls’ game, which consisted of the best high school All-Stars from Nassau County (in gray) playing against the best high school All-Stars from Suffolk County (in blue).

The Alzheimer’s All-Star Basketball Classic was founded by Gordon Thomas in 2010 in memory of his father Detective John Edward Thomas Sr. Gordon Thomas was touched deeply by his experience in dealing with his father’s dementia, and is an avid supporter in the fight against Alzheimer’s disease. He has combined the love of his father’s memory and his love of the game of basketball to raise funds to fight this crippling disease.
Congratulations Executive Mangano!
