Many of you may have seen that our Marines recently closed Camp Leatherneck in Afghanistan as the drawdown continues of some of our U.S. forces in the region. However, our brave men and women are still serving in the area and many continue to be deployed. The 3rd Battalion, 82nd Combat Aviation Brigade (Task Force Talon), is among those who will be spending the upcoming holidays in Bagram, Afghanistan in service to our country.
Manhasset’s American Legion Auxiliary Unit 304 is supporting this battalion during their deployment and we once again ask for your assistance. You have been very generous in the past and those receiving your donations have been heartened by the fact that they are remembered even by those who do not know them. The following items would be very much appreciated: candy, gum, water bottle mixes such as lemonade, sunscreen products, chap sticks, travel size toiletries, wisps (the waterless toothbrush/toothpaste), and granola/snack bars. More than anything, they need our prayers and our letters. Please consider writing a positive message to a “Dear Soldier” or drawing a homemade card.
The mailbox outside of the American Legion Hall at 27 Bayview Avenue, which is usually for the collection of worn American Flags, will now also be used as a drop box for donations for our Soldiers. Also, on November 15th the American Legion Hall will be open as a collection site for donations between the hours of 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
Thank you for your anticipated generosity to those who so faithfully guard our freedoms. You may contact me with any questions at patobrien17@msn.com or 516-850-5702.
In Support of Those Who Serve our Great Nation,
