Learn to make holiday pies from the pros. A Taste of Home Bakery’s Head Baker and Co-Owner Rose Fuger will teach participants how to make beautiful and delicious holiday pies. Take home two pies to serve right away or freeze them to serve on Thanksgiving, Christmas or any holiday. This class will be offered on Wednesday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. The cost is $50 per person and includes two pies to take home, plus a beverage and snacks while you work. Just in time for Thanksgiving is A Taste of Home Bakery’s Turkey Cookie Class for Kids. Executive Pastry Chef Nadia will show participants how to decorate turkey cookies and other favorite fall shapes at this hands-on workshop on Friday, Nov. 21 at 4 p.m. $25 per students, includes three cookies, a drink and snacks to enjoy while you work. Join the Lost Nights and the Tier Rats Law Enforcement Motorcycle clubs and Miller’s Ale House Restaurants on Saturday, Nov. 22 for a ride and toy drive benefiting the Toys For Tots campaign. Sign in at 8:30 a.m. at Miller’s Deer Park Ale House, 1800 The Arches Circle West in Deer Park. Kickstands up at 11 a.m. Ride ends with lunch at Miller’s Levittown Ale House, 3046 Hempstead Tpke. in Levittown. $10 and one unwrapped toy per person (no stuffed animals), or $20 per person without a toy donation. The United Veterans Organization (UVO) and Nassau County will host their semi-annual Veterans Stand Down on Tuesday, Nov. 25 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Freeport Armory, located at 63 Babylon Tpke. in Freeport. The Stand Down provides veterans with assistance in securing entitled benefits, job counseling and legal advice. Clothes and food donated from the community will be available to the veterans, as well as haircuts, medical screening and enrollment in the VA health care system. Representatives from Nassau County agencies will be participating, including the Departments of Social Services, Health, and Human Services. The Salvation Army, State Department of Labor, Department of Veterans Affairs, State Division of Veterans Affairs and the Red Cross will also participate in the Stand Down. The 7th Annual Rick Bailey Memorial Turkey Bowl, flag football tournament at MacArthur High School, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 29 followed by an open-bar reception at Mulcahy’s, 3232 Railroad Ave. in Wantagh.
