The Town of North Hempstead will be holding theatre workshops after announcing its new North Hempstead Theatre Company. This drama workshop is designed for children ages 7 to 12 and requires no background experience to enroll.
The workshop will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m. until Dec.16 on the second floor of the Aquatic Activity Center at Michael J. Tully Park in New Hyde Park.
The program is designed to empower children with confidence, self-esteem, and leadership and teamwork skills. Enrollees will discover the joy of acting and will be able to use these learned skills in future endeavors. The program will culminate with a final in-house performance.
The instructor for the course will be Drew Keil, who was cast opposite Susan Lucci on All My Children and later starred in the Broadway Production of Sly Fox with George C. Scott and Jeffrey Tambor. Keil has worked in both community theatre productions and regional theatre throughout the country and is currently the co-artistic director of an on-campus theatre group at Hofstra University, where he has acted and directed for over 20 years.
Those interested in enrolling must be a resident of North Hempstead and can sign up at the Michael J. Tully Park facility. The cost will be $70 per student and includes a North Hempstead Theatre Company T-shirt.
