On Dec. 1, Erin Reilley of Farmingdale took the post as chief sustainability officer in the Town of North Hempstead.
Reilley has an extensive background in environmental protection including three years in the County Executive’s Office of Environmental Coordination and Nassau County Dept. of Public Works, where she, among other things, implemented municipal environmental initiatives, including the $100 million Nassau County Environmental Programs Act.
In her new role, Reilly will be responsible for overseeing the implementation of the town’s sustainability goals and will implement programs and policies that preserve and protect North Hempstead’s natural resources.
“Preserving our environment, and developing new and innovative ideas in order to do so are among my administration’s key priorities,” said Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth. “Erin has the experience, skill set and passion to lead our mission of making North Hempstead a green community for generations to come.”
In addition, Reilley will lead the town’s environmental education programs including the robust 40,000 student School Recycling Partnership program, which takes place at nine of the 11 school districts in North Hempstead.
She will also use her experience as grants administrator at the Glen Cove Community Development Agency to identify opportunities for environmental grants from federal, state and county agencies.
Reilly graduated with a Masters in environmental policy and sustainablity management from The New School and a Bachelor’s in political science from Colorado College.
