A 56-year-old man was killed in a motel fire in North Amityville early Sunday morning.

Suffolk County police officers and firefighters responded to a 911 call reporting a fire at Sayonara Motel on Broadway at 5:35 a.m., police said.

Kevin Furey, who was residing in a room on the second floor, was overcome by the fire, police said.

He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital in Bethpage, where he was pronounced dead.

Firefighters extinguished the flames shortly later.

Homicide Squad and Arson Squad detectives are continuing the investigation into the cause of the fire, which authorities said does not appear to be criminal in nature.
