Ice Skating Sessions
Beginning Friday, Dec. 26, through Dec. 30, sessions at the Syosset-Woodbury Community Park Rink will be held at the following times: 10 a.m.-noon, 1-3 p.m., 4-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. There will be two special New Year’s Eve sessions held at 10 a.m.-noon and 1-3 p.m. Both outdoor rinks will be closed on New Year’s Day. On Friday, Jan. 2, there will be sessions from 10 a.m.-noon, 1-3 p.m., 4-6 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.

Modified Sanitation Collection Holiday Dates
On Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, there will be no sanitation or recycling collection townwide. Residents who normally receive sanitation or recycling collection on Thursdays will have collection on Dec. 26 and Jan. 2. Those who receive collection on Fridays will have garbage collected on Dec. 27 and Jan. 3.

Performed by Plaza Theatrical Productions, this live production is from 2-3 p.m. and is for children ages 4 and up and their families. Little Orphan Annie takes center stage and performs favorite songs such as “Tomorrow,” “Maybe” and “It’s The Hard Knock Life.” Register at the Bethpage Public Library.

Volunteers Needed
Start 2015 off right by volunteering with POB Cares and Project PACE. The two programs of the Mid-Island Y JCC are currently recruiting volunteers ages 18 and older to help senior residents of Plainview-Old Bethpage. Volunteers are needed to drive clients to local medical appointment, do grocery shopping and minor home repairs. Exploration Backpacks
The Hofstra University Museum’s Exploration Backpacks offers an activity-filled way for adults and children to explore together. At the end of your tour, return the backpack and the child can keep the crafts they’ve created. This event is free and fun for everyone ages 5-10 and their grown-ups. Turner, Degas and Monet: Art and Technology in the 19th Century
Industrialization and technology of the 19th century had a profound impact on the development of some of the most popular artists. This course with David Brett will explore the interaction of art and technology throughout the 19th century and will include artists such as Ingres, Eugene Delacroix, JMW Turner, Goya, Degas, Monet, Rodin and Van Gogh.
