Green Dragons Look For Another Successful Season

After coming off a 14-3 mark last season and a trip to the first round of the conference playoffs, the Green Dragons boys basketball team is looking to attain similar success this season. Despite losing most of their scoring and rebounding, Coach Dave Graff believes his team has what it takes to be successful.

“We lost our leading scorer, (Shakel Kafield) and our leading rebounder, (Brian Newell) to graduation but we’re off to a 4-0 start already this year and Ianticipate battling for a conference championship and hopefully making the playoffs,” Graff said.

Bball_122514CGraff said that his team still has pretty good depth and that he believes that depth will help his team in a long conference season.

“Our main players that we bring back are senior forward, Jerome Cunningham and the Dean brothers, Johnathan and Malachi. Malachi plays at the forward position and Johnathan, who is a sophomore, plays at guard,” Graff said.

Another player who will play a featured role this season for the Green Dragons is senior, Kyle Spruill.

The team is already off to a good start, reclaiming their title as champions of the Coaches versus Cancer tournament for the second year in a row. They defeated East Meadow on Dec. 5, 67-44.

Graff said that the biggest challenge the Green Dragons will face this season will be Elmont who is heralded as one of the top teams in the county.

“If we are able to beat them I believe that we will be able to win the conference,” said Graff.

Westbury has their next home game on Jan. 8 at 6:15 p.m. as they face off against Elmont.
