A 53-year-old man was fatally struck by a vehicle while crossing Sunrise Highway in Freeport on Tuesday night.
Nassau County police said the pedestrian was walking across Route 27 at the corner of North Long Beach Road when he was hit by a westbound Subaru shortly before 9 p.m.
The victim was taken to Nassau University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. His identity was not immediately released.
Homicide Squad detectives conducted a safety check on the car and found no apparent criminality on behalf of the 49-year-old driver, police said. Detectives are continuing the investigation.
