Roslyn High School student Tiffany Sun was named on of 40 Intel Science Talent Search Finalists today and one of five on Long Island. Sun will compete on March 5-11 in Washington, D.C. for first-place awards of $150,000. She earned $1,000 for earning semifinal status in early January.
Sun studied implicit biases through the manipulation of a classic ethical dilemma known as the Trolley Problem. The projects that the Roslyn student entered in this science research competition was the culmination of two years of work.
“Having four semifinalists in a year that there are just 43 from all Long Island schools is a stunning achievement,” Weseley said at the time.
“Research has opened many doors for me; the experience has been transformative,” Sun said when named a semifinalist.
Earlier this month, three other Roslyn students were named semifinalists. Those David Jaslow, Jordan Rosen, Rachel Mintz and Sun, who were excited for the announcement. The district boasted the most semifinalists on Long Island this year.
“It was like winning the lottery,” Rosen said at the time.
The winners will be announced on March 10 during an awards ceremony at the National Building Museum.
