Williams and Joffen to play Garden Stage

Acoustic guitar enthusiasts have plenty to look forward to when Brooks Williams and Josh Joffen perform at the Garden Stage Coffee House on Friday, Feb. 6 at 8:30 p.m. (There will be an open mic at 7:30 p.m.)

Ranked in the Top 100 Acoustic Guitarists, Williams is one of the most versatile and entertaining performers on the acoustic roots music scene today. The Statesboro, GA native is a proverbial triple threat: a fiery guitarist, a smooth-as-silk vocalist and stunning songwriter. In February 2014 he was nominated best male vocalist by the UK’s folk roots mavens Spiral Earth. In the time-honored road-warrior tradition, Williams has honed his songs on stages from Dallas to London, Istanbul to Anchorage, Toronto to Dublin, Detroit to Glasgow, Nairobi to Belfast, New York to Sardinia. Recent appearances include Cropredy Festival, Celtic Connections, Glastonbury, Shrewsbury Folk Festival, Birmingham Jazz and Blues Festival, Ards Guitar Festival, Kerrville Festival and Moab Folk Festival. All in all, thousands of gigs over thousands of miles.
Joffen is an award-winning songwriter and performer out of the Greenwich Village scene. Blending traditional, folk and jazz influences in a rich palette of guitar voicings and open tunings, Joffen’s songs tell stories and paint portraits of strangers you’ll instantly recognize and landscapes of far-off places and times. And he’s earned his reputation for performing his songs every bit as well as he writes them. He is a two-time winner of the Kerrville Folk Festival’s “New Songs” songwriter competition. Three of his originals have been recorded by others, most recently “Crazy Horse” by the folk trio Gathering Time, and “The Girl From the Great Divide” by Mike Agranoff and a number are covered by performers around the country.

The Garden Stage Coffee House is located at 223 Stewart Ave. in Garden City. Tickets are $20 adv., $22 DOS. For tickets and information, please email calendar@uuccn.org or call 516-248-8891.
