Garden City Library Blood Drive
Long Island Blood Services will hold a blood drive at The Garden City Public Library from 2:30 to 7:00 p.m. in the large meeting room on the lower level of the library. Area hospitals are in need of local residents’ help. Each donation can help to save up to three lives. Eligible donors must be between 16 and 75 years of age, with a minimum weight of 110 lbs., and no tattoos within the past 12 months. Sixteen-year-olds must have parental permission and donors age 76 and over must present a doctor’s note. All donors must have valid ID with signature or photo. Donors are encouraged to eat well (low fat) and drink fluids. For medical questions concerning blood donations, call 1-800-688-0900. Please call the library at 742-8405 x210 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are welcome. The library is located at 60 7th St.

Black Angels Over Tuskegee
The historical docudrama Black Angels Over Tuskegee, the first event of Hofstra’s Black History Month celebration, will be performed at 8 p.m. at The Helene Fortunoff Theater, Monroe Lecture Center, South Campus. Energetic and emotionally captivating, Black Angels Over Tuskegee is the story of six men embarking to become the first aviators in the United States Army Air Forces during a tumultuous era of racial segregation and Jim Crow idealism in 20th century American history. The play has enjoyed a successful six year run off-Broadway at St. Luke’s Theater (308 West 46th Street). Tickets are $15. There is a student rate of $5 (upon presentation of ID) and a group rate (15+) of $12. Hofstra faculty, staff and administrators may pay $10 for up to two tickets upon presentation of a current HofstraCard.There is also a special $25 VIP package that includes preferred seating and admission to a meet the cast reception. Christ Episcopal Church Cabaret
At 6:30 p.m.—one week before St. Valentine’s Day—Christ Church Garden City presents its “Second Annual Clergy Cabaret,” at The Mercer School of Theology. The event features The Rev. Matt Oprendek, The Rev. Canon John Betit, and The Rev. Margo Peckham Clark with local artist Dianna Betit, and The Very Rev. Canon John McGinty as master of ceremonies.
The cast presents an unforgettable evening of love songs from the American Song Book with a classic jazz trio from New York City. The pre-Lenten gala is complete with a champagne reception to give you a chance to meet and greet the singing stars. The Mercer School of Theology is at 65 Fourth Street in Garden City. Marvelous Movie Matinée
A screening of the 2003 Clint Eastwood drama Mystic River starring Tim Robbins, Sean Penn and Kevin Bacon will be held from 1:30 to 4 p.m. at the Garden City Public Library.
