Brandon Chavez, a seventh-grade student at Hicksville Middle School earned first place in the school’s National Geographic Geography Bee. Chavez bested more than 35 sixth- through eighth-grade students, who were chosen based upon the results of classroom competitions. He will now take a written test to determine his qualification for nationals, where he would have the opportunity to win $25,000 in a bee hosted by Alex Trebek.
