An accident on West Shore Road early Monday morning knocked down four power poles and stopped traffic in both directions for what police estimated would be the full day.
According to police, a vehicle traveling on West Shore Road crashed into a power pole around 12:30 a.m. That pole fell and took down three more.
The driver was air-lifted to a local hospital with a broken arm and other possible injuries. Alcohol was not involved in the accident, police said.
The damage did not cause any major power outages in Port Washington. PSEG-LI was on the scene to repair the poles, but windy conditions hampered the work.
