Pantry Receives Grant

wj

Church_022515AThe paper and personal care pantry ministry of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior received a grant from the Peter & Jeri Dejana Family Foundation.

Congregants Clare Masi, Irene Wood and Denise Macrae greeted grant administrator Jim Avena in the pantry and expressed the church family’s appreciation to him and foundation members.

The pantry ministry serves local individuals and families on the first Thursday of each month between 4:30 and 6:15 p.m. Every guest receives paper toweling, toilet tissue and then selects six additional items. The items may include laundry detergent, diapers, shampoo, bar soap, deodorant, and toothpaste.

Pantry guests are referred by guidance counselors in the school district, social workers at Landmark on Main Street apartments and Hadley House, and the parish social ministry coordinators.

The Lutheran Church provides community ministry in cooperation with other Port congregations. Our Lady of Fatima and St. Peter of Alcantara parishes provide food and other assistance to persons in need. St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church sponsors a layette ministry, and the Community Synagogue is able to provide health aid equipment.
