The Gold Coast Arts Center (formerly the Great Neck Arts Center) proudly presents the Spring 2015 Film Series, the Furman Film Series. The Furman Film Series previews the best new independent films and studio releases, each followed by a question and answer period, with filmmakers and industry professionals. And the time to subscribe to this exciting series is now!
A regular subscription is $75 and a senior citizen subscription is $65.

Screenings take place at Bow Tie Squire Cinemas, at 115 Middle Neck Rd., in downtown Great Neck Plaza, at 7:30 p.m. Doors open at 7 p.m. for subscribers and at 7:15 p.m. for individual ticket holders.
Marie’s Story
The next film for the Furman Film Series is Marie’s Story, on March 12. This 2014 film was directed by Jean-Pierre Améris in France and runs for 95 minutes.
Marie’s Story is based on real-life events that took place in the late nineteenth century. Marie’s Story follows the story of a deaf and blind 14-year-old girl who can’t communicate with the outside world. Despite the advice of a doctor who believes she is “dumb,” Marie’s father, a humble artisan, cannot bring himself to commit her to an asylum. Out of despair, he takes her to the Larnay Institute near Poitiers, where nuns take care of young deaf women. Her Mother Superior’s skepticism notwithstanding, Sister Marguerite, a young nun, takes Marie under her wing and does everything she can to help her to open up to her surroundings.
Marie’s Story is an award-winning film. This film has won the Variety Piazza Grande Award at the Locarno Film Festival and also won for Audience Favorite, World Cinema Silver at the Mill Valley Film Festival.
